Model: F-1643
Type: Over-Center Draw Latch | Size: Small | Material: Stainless Steel | Finish: Passivated
Product Description
The F-1643 is a small over-center draw latch made from stainless steel with a passivated finish. It’s a clean, straightforward latch that handles two things well — keeping things shut and looking good while doing it. The slim profile and simple lever design give it a neat appearance that works on both functional industrial equipment and more visible consumer-facing applications.
The over-center mechanism is the key to how this latch stays closed. As the lever is pushed down, it moves past the center point of its arc and locks itself in that position. The built-in spring device adds tension that actively resists accidental opening, so bumps, vibration, and general handling won’t cause it to pop loose on its own. Opening it requires a deliberate lift of the lever — which is exactly what you want.
The long connection version gives you more reach between the latch body and the keeper, making it useful where panels sit further apart or where you need more clamping pull to draw surfaces together. The handle tab-up position suits installations where overhead or front-facing access is preferred.
For applications that need an extra layer of security, this latch includes a padlock clasp — loop a padlock through it and the latch can’t be opened without the key. This makes it suitable for storage, transport cases, and any application where unauthorized access is a real concern.
Stainless steel construction with passivation treatment means it handles moisture and corrosion well, making it a solid choice for outdoor, marine, food service, and washdown environments. It meets both UL FTTA2 / FTTA8 Class 1 and REACH No. 1907/2006 compliance standards.

How the Over-Center Mechanism Works
When you push the lever down to close the latch, it travels in an arc past the geometric center point of the pivot. Once it crosses that center point, the spring tension and geometry of the latch hold it firmly in place — it can’t spring back open on its own. To release it, you lift the lever back through center. The spring adds resistance to that motion, which means accidental opening from vibration or impact is very unlikely. It’s a reliable, proven design that’s been used across industrial, transport, and equipment applications for decades.
