Introduction
Selecting the correct swing handle lock for large industrial enclosures is one of the most common specification decisions engineers face. Get it wrong and you face field failures, customer complaints, or expensive redesigns. Get it right and you’ve solved a problem your competitors haven’t thought about.
This guide covers the five decision factors that determine whether your specification will work in the real world.
Door Width — Single-Point or Multi-Point?
The single most important decision. Door width determines whether a single-point or multi-point locking system is required.
Rule of thumb: If the door is wider than 800 mm, you need multi-point locking.
| Door Width | Locking Type | Recommended Series |
| ≤600 mm | Single-Point | A-1118 (slim profile) |
| 600–800 mm | Single-Point | A-1113 (versatile) |
| 800–1,500 mm | Multi-Point | A-1200 (3-point rod control) |
| >1,500 mm | Multi-Point + consultation | Custom engineering review |
Why 800 mm? Beyond 800 mm, the force difference between the handle end and the far end of the door becomes significant enough that uneven sealing pressure is a genuine concern in all but the most rigid door panels.
Environmental Sealing — IP Rating
| IP Rating | Application | Series Range |
| IP54 | Indoor, dust-protected | A-1113, A-1118, A-1130 |
| IP65 | Outdoor, water jets | A-1200 with gasket |
| IP66 | Outdoor, heavy seas | A-1200 with reinforced seal |
Key vs Padlock vs Non-Locking
| Option | When to Use | Series |
| K333 Key Cylinder | Controlled access, keyed-alike across multiple enclosures | A-1113, A-1200 |
| Padlock Hasp | Outdoor, public access, maintenance crew padlocks | A-1113-50, A-1200 |
| Non-Locking (T-handle) | Clean rooms, food processing, frequent authorized access | A-1118-10 |
Material Selection
| Environment | Material | Finish |
| Indoor control panel | Zinc alloy | Zinc plated |
| Outdoor telecom | Zinc alloy | Powder coated black |
| Marine/Coastal | SS304 | Brushed/Passivated |
| Chemical processing | SS316 | Electropolished |
| Food processing | SS304 | Mirror polish |
Panel Thickness
Standard swing handles fit 1.5–3.0 mm panel thickness. For thicker panels (up to 6 mm), extended-shaft variants (A-1130 series) or custom bushes are available.
Before ordering, confirm:
- Panel thickness at the mounting location
- Whether the door has a rabbet (step) at the closing edge
- Cutout dimensions (drawings available on request)
Top 5 Models for Large Enclosures

| 2 | A-1118-10 | Non-locking, SS304, slim | Slim-panel, reversible |
| 3 | A-1113-50 | Padlockable, heavy-duty | Outdoor, public access |
| 4 | A-1130-20 | Extended reach | Thick panels, deep doors |
| 5 | A-1200-10 | Multi-point rod control | 3-point on tall doors |
