Hygienic Quarter-Turn Latches

Hygienic Quarter-Turn Latches for Food, Pharma & Medical Equipment

On food processing and pharmaceutical equipment, a latch crevice that cannot be flushed is a bacterial accumulation site and a failed audit. SecuriLock hygienic quarter-turn latches close this gap: smooth surfaces with no exposed springs, a blue silicone sealing ring that can be checked at a glance, and washdown protection rated IP69K. Bodies and cams come in SUS304 or SUS316.

Three series cover panel thicknesses from 1 to 15 mm. The SLC3 compression series clamps the door shut with 7 mm of travel and holds 700 N. The SLC2 and SLD1 series handle thin panels from 1 to 5 mm in a compact quarter-turn format. Tool-operated inserts are available in five drive codes; the rotary series offers left- and right-hand locking.

For equipment standardized on EMKA Program 1000 hygienic quarter turns: the SLC2 and SLD1 series match 1000-U838, and the SLC3 compression series matches 1000-U861/U862.

Why these latches are hygienic by design

  • No exposed springs or unsealed threads on the product side; radiused transitions clean down without disassembly
  • Blue silicone ring at the panel interface: seal position and condition are visible during washdown checks
  • Rated IP69K for high-pressure, high-temperature washdown
  • SUS304 or SUS316 to match splash-zone chemistry; the SLC3 series uses SUS316 as standard
  • 90° turn with the cam engaged behind the frame, not a friction fit

Typical applications

  • Food & beverage processing: filling lines, mixers, conveyors, packaging machines (industry page)
  • Pharmaceutical & cleanroom equipment: washdown-zone cabinets and access panels (industry page)
  • Stainless steel machinery: machine doors, inspection covers, access panels
  • Control cabinets in washdown zones

Matching sealing hardware

The same enclosures need sealing from the outside too: hygienic fasteners, including the SL-J-2600 sealing bolt and SL-J-2601 sealing nut.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a quarter-turn latch “hygienic”?

Three things have to work together: crevice-free geometry with enclosed mechanics, a food-grade seal at the panel interface, and stainless construction that survives alkaline and chlorine-based CIP chemistry. A polished standard latch does not meet any of these by default.

What does IP69K cover?

Close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature washdown, the cleaning method used in food and pharma plants. For IP65/IP67/IP68/IP69K differences, see our IP rating guide.

SLC3 compression or SLC2/SLD1 standard?

Doors from 1–15 mm with gasket compression or vibration: SLC3, the cam travels 7 mm further to tension the panel closed. Thin 1–5 mm panels and light enclosures: SLC2 or SLD1.

SUS304 or SUS316?

A1 = SUS304, A2 = SUS316, both available on every model. The SLC3 series is built in SUS316 as standard.
